Issues and prospects for "subjective career" study related to "retention" of international students : From the viewpoint of Japanese language education

P(論文)This paper has two purposes from the viewpoint that it is necessary to promote not only the employment of international students but also subsequent "retention." One is to review previous studies, focusing on the "subjective careers" of international students and foreign employees, and the other is to gain perspectives for future studies. First, I organized the position of subjective careers in career theory and their research approaches and examined cultural influences and the role of language in subjective careers. Also, as a result of reviewing the involvement of Japanese language education, which is the language of the host country, I obtained the following five perspectives regarding the subjective career research of international students and foreign employees in the future. 1) It is necessary to grasp the subjective career in a continuous-time framework rather than temporarily. 2) The elements of the subjective careers of international students and foreign employees in Japan must be clarified. 3) Is there a difference in the elements of the subjective career depending on the culture of the origin? 4) How is the acquisition of Japanese, which is the language of the host society, involved in the formation of the subjective career? 5) How does the culture of origin affect subjective career development, and how is it adjusted for cross-cultural adaptation?departmental bulletin pape
